Clijsters Struggles to Win Australian Open Final
Kim Clijsters finally wins the Australian Open after many attempts by defeating Li Na 3-6 6-3 6-3 in a tough, gritty, topsy-turvy battle that thrilled the Melbourne crowd. Kim celebrated the win with tears of joy before shaking hands with Li Na, who became a national hero in China after reaching the final. In her acceptance speech Kim said of Li Na: "It's been a great effort for her these past two weeks. I hope we can play many more grand slam finals in the future." The way both players played in the final, there's no doubt that they will. In a way it was a game where both players found it hard to hold their serves, especially Kim, who struggled with Li Na's powerful ground strokes. Aussie Kim, as she is known in Australia, wasn't going to win unless she changed her tactics. It was after the second set that her determination, attitude, and new tactics started to change the game her way. She started giving Li Na more looping topspin balls, and mistakes by Li Na started to increase as the game went on. The last set was more of the same, but what made it a thrilling game was Kim's determination and attitude to try different tactics, and Li Na's ability to break Clijsters serve at any moment.
